Hawaiian Brain Freeze Shave Ice and Ice cream in Island of Hawaii

Went here for the shaved ice, it was really syrupy. The portions are huge but the flavoring is only on the outside which left a bunch of plain ice in the middle which came in handy since they had nowhere to wash my hands after. The snow cap was not like what it is at other places and wasn’t very good(even though I didn’t ask for it in the first place).

Great place to go for a cool treat in Hilo! The portions are generous and both the shave ice and ice cream are delicious. We'll worth the trip off the main road.

If your coming here you best be hungry or definitely share! The shave ice cream was fantastic....make sure you get a " snow cap" . Verify sizes before you order....the medium could feed 3 people.

So Delicious! Seriously a must have while on the island! The snow flavors taste so much like the real fruit! The ice cream is good too. The staff is so friendly. We will be returning before we leave!

Local Hawaii flavors, sourced from local vendors. Very high quality ice cream, with butter fat content much higher than Baskin Robins (creamy). The portions are large. I would ask to see the serving sizes before you order. My only reservations is that the service can be slow. They only have 1 snow cone machine. If there are families ordering, be prepared to wait 20+ minutes. Weekends are crowed. Additionally, when we ordered our snow cones there were some hidden costs for add-ons that were not on the menu. Overall great deserts.

Had a lilikoi shave ice bigger than I could possibly imagine. And it was a small. 10/10 would get again.

Lots of local flavors, which was cool. Best thing we had was the Mac Nut Ice Cream. The 3 shave ice flavors that we had were overly sweet. I thought it was a bit odd that they wouldn’t let you get two flavors of ice cream with a single scoop, even though each scoop is made up of essentially two scoops.

A great place to stop after visiting the rainbow falls. We had kona coffee ice cream and lychee shaved ice. Both are very tasty. Their shaved ice is of HUGE portion. Really friendly staff and good service.They have shortened winter seasonal hours when we visited (Nov 10, 2017) closing at 6pm. This was just a sign on their door though, could be temporary.

Huge portions, great selection and good customer service. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and my kids and I were the only people there. We all got once scoop each of the flavor we want and we were all struggling to finish it. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

I got the medium banana and root beer shaved ice. It was like eating a box of Popcicles and finishing it off with a scoop of ice cream.It was good.

First time i went and i was so impressed! Customer service was excellent everyone so kind and accommodating. The portions and prices were awesome and im definitely coming back!

Be warned - the shave ice here is HUGE. My friend and I got a keiki size, and it was really big! We will be sharing next time. Very friendly staff and delicious shave ice. The store is very cold so the shave ice does not melt as long as you stay in the store!

We stopped here for a sweet break on our way to the volcano national Park. What a great find! Our son ordered the blue lagoon ice cream and absolutely loved it. My wife and I shared a small shaved ice with pineapple, mango, lychee, and vanilla ice cream and topped with red beans. Boy was it good! And as you can see from the picture, it was huge! Even though we shared it we still didn't finish, although we really tried. The owner was very friendly and asked where we were from, and chatted with us for a bit. We will definitely go back if we ever go through Hilo again.

Great ice cream, weird atmosphere. No one said anything to us for about 8-10 minutes, and we were next in line. Large portions.. i asked for a single scoop but got closer to three— service left something to be desired though.

Family operated and family friendly. They have shaved ice, halo halo and ice cream! Everything was really really good and the serving sizes are huge!

If you love Shave Ice this is the place to go! I would highly recommend you get a small as it will do you just fine. Did not have the ice cream, but it looks pretty tasty as well! Be sure 2 pick a flavor that you love. My kid went with the rainbow and got to say it was pretty tasty.

It's a bit outrageous that they want to charge you for things like an extra spoon. I'm surprised they didn't charge us for samples. The ice cream is really good though, so it's worth the prices and the line. I'll be back.

My shave ice was huge but the ice was not as fine as other places and the POG syrup wasn't great. Other flavors were better but I couldn't finish mine. Great selection of ice cream flavors and if you like mochi, that's a topping option.

My favorite shave ice on Big Island Hawaii. The flavors are amazing. I love the portions. Accidentally bought a medium today and it was big!!! But it was flavorful. Try your shave ice with condensed milk aka a snow cap.
